Hi! My name is Jaydee.
I’m a fourth-year Industrial Design student at TU/e with a strong passion for both making art and creating meaningful solutions for people with special needs. My love for art is something my parents have always encouraged me to pursue, while my drive to support and empower people with special needs stems from my older sister. She is multiply disabled, wheelchair bound and cognitively functioning at the level of a four year old due to a rare condition called pontocerebellar hypoplasia type 17, a diagnosis shared by only five others worldwide. She was born without a small part of her brain and suffered additional brain damage at birth due to a lack of oxygen.
When my parents separated, I was seven and my sister was nine. Since then, my mother and I have shared the responsibility of caring for her. When she moved to a parent-initiative living facility at age 21, my mother and I became actively involved in the community and its monthly meetings. This period of intense caregiving is something I am deeply proud of, and I believe it has shaped who I am today. It taught me empathy, resilience, and the real-world importance of well-designed assistive products. Through these experiences, I saw not only the value these tools can bring but also the many ways in which they can still be improved, especially as technology continues to evolve. This realization has become a core motivation in my design journey.
Professionally, I am known for my strong willpower, motivation, and independence. Qualities that have been ingrained in me from an early age. I’m very straightforward and critical in my thinking, always aiming to grow and improve. I welcome feedback openly and use it as a tool for continuous development. At times, my drive pushes me to take on too much, but I see this as a reflection of my ambition and deep commitment to what I do. I’m also highly social, which helps me connect with people easily, an important trait in both teamwork and user-centered design.
Looking ahead, I aspire to use my creativity, personal experiences, and professional strengths to design impactful, inclusive products that truly improve lives.
